This is another awesome figure drawing group that you can sign up for on meetup. It is the best price for figure drawing (free!) and it’s a fun group of people and good music. Instead of paying in money, everyone’s contribution is modeling for about 20 minutes for everyone else. So if you’ve wondered what it’s like on the model’s side of the stand, it’s a fun chance to try it. The pacing of the poses is a bit different than most figure drawing sessions, everyone does some short poses and a long pose with the 20 minutes. There are more short poses towards the beginning of the session and more long ones at the end. It’s a bit strange at first if you’re used to poses only getting longer, switching back to a short pose is a bit of a brain flip for me. The tricky part of this group is it happens on different days of the week with a frequency of about 2 weeks and the signup list fills up fast. So it’s a bit hit or miss if you can make it and it’s hard to settle into as a habit. However, it’s fun to get to draw so many different people in one night and it’s fun to see others’ drawings of you when you model.
I was experimenting with using a razor pen and a hot pink Tombow pen for the line drawings. I especially like how they bleed on Fabriano drawing paper instead of watercolor paper. I totally took the razor pen idea from an undergrad at the Berkeley figure drawing. However it’s something fun to do with any water-soluble pen.
